The most important benefit of regularly attending peer support group meetings is that you learn you are not alone.

You’ll neet and interact with others with similar situations, and you’ll learn new coping skills from others that support living your best life. It’s also a chance to socialize and a safe space to interact with others…and it’s a great way to just get out of the house. Being with other who have similar experiences can provide a refreshed sense of well-being and self-esteem.

In fact, many point to peer support as an important tool to support and speed the recovery process. Research shows that people who attend peer support meetings tend to reduce the need for hospital readmissions and experience other positive health outcomes, find a boost in motivation and are better engaged in treatment. By regularly attending peer support group meetings, you’re less likely to view yourself through a lens of stigma and to instead focus on opportunity and wellness.
